One of the most common questions I get asked or see get asked online, is what's the difference between MCT oil, XCT oil, and Brain Octane oil? This is something I had a hard time deciphering at the beginning of my Bulletproof journey as well - but it's actually quite simple!

Let's start with WHY these products are important and more popular than ever: MCTs - Medium Chain Triglycerides. A medium chain fat found in coconut oil that our body LOVES as fuel. If you try a high quality, pure MCT oil you can FEEL it. IT's 9x more efficient as an energy source that sugar/carbs. MCTs are 4 molecules: C6, C8, C10, and C12. (C8 and C10 are the most EFFECTIVE as fuel for our bodies. The C6 and C12 are way less-beneficial compared to C6 and C12)

So, where does it come from? Coconut oil! Coconut oil is one of the worlds best fatty foods. There are a few problems with it, though: It gets solid, it tastes like coconut, and you'd have to consume a MASSIVE amount of it to get the benefits of the MCTs. So much so that it might as well be impossible (not really impossible, but you'd end up crapping your pants. And who wants to eat 20 tablespoons of coconut oil?)

That's where MCT oil comes in, it's an extract of the MCTs in coconut oil. Awesome, right?! Now we don't have to eat 20 tablespoons of coconut oil!

But there's a problem. Many companies sell "100% MCT Oil" (which is supposed to be just C8 and C10!) but often use the C12 molecule to dilute it (because it's the cheapest and easiest of the MCTs to extract) so they can make more money! Leaving you with an upset stomach and NOT the energy you were looking for.

That's where Bulletproofs XCT oil comes in. Pure, beautifully extracted C8 and C12 MCTs ONLY. No other MCTs and not watered down (because it's not emulsified...a lot of MCT products are emulsified, which literally waters it down). So XCT is the highest grade, purist, MCT oil on the market from 100% organic coconuts.

Then there's Brain Octane Oil - the top dawg. This is JUST the C8 MCT, nothing else. It goes through an intense extraction and purification process (hence why it's more expensive but DAMN worth it). The C8 MCT is the most ketogenic MCT there is. It immediately goes into the bloodstream, straight to the liver, and get's turned into ketone bodies so you can a mental burst of smooth energy without any crash.

So why use one over the other? A general rule of thumb: use Brain Octane if your #1 priority is fast mental clarity and energy (like in the morning with your Bulletproof coffee) then use XCT oil throughout the day on food, veggies, soups, smoothies, etc.

You end up saving money like that long-term since XCT oil is cheaper than Brain Octane. Use Brain Octane in your morning Bulletproof Coffee (or smoothie/tea/etc) (or when you need that mental kick) then use XCT oil throughout the day to sustain energy. ketosis, flavor, and satiety.

Hope this answers the question! If there's anything I can do for you, please let me know!
