Carbs On Keto? Why, When, & How To Refeed On Carbs

I personally, from experience & research, can think of more reasons to dip out of ketosis every so often than to not. I went 4 months with zero starches, and only a couple handfuls of veggies of day. I was eating great healthy sources of protein and fats and felt great the first 3 months. Month 4? Sleep turned to 💩, I got the dry eyes, I got headaches, I didn’t feel fantastic like I did the first 3 months. What was my resolution? SWEET POTATOES! Carbs was my solution. Felt fantastic, continued to lose fat, sleep quality restored, & was overall just a good idea. Especially for my gut.
Lack of glycoprotein formation (which play a role in cell to cell interactions), lack of mucin production (mucus that lines your gut + lubricates the eye -hence dry eyes) are linked to long-term carb restriction. They require carbs. Conversion of inactive to activate thyroid require some carbohydrate (think about what can happen if your thyroid gets thrown out of whack). Of course, there’s always caveats, but for the general population I feel comfortable suggesting a carb re-feed every so often. Just sharing my personal experiences here
And, I mean, come on… who doesn’t want to enjoy sweet potato fries?!?!?! Or sushi rice cooked with coconut milk! Or beets! Or PUMPKIN PIE!
